About August
I wrote my first book when I was 10 years old. It did not, sadly, go on to be a bestseller. I continued to write short stories and half-finished novels throughout university and medical school, publishing several creative nonfiction pieces. During the pandemic, I finally completed a manuscript and found a literary agent. I've written three more manuscripts since then.

VERA, a brilliant Black graduate student in Washington, D.C., gets a prestigious fellowship at an international bank in the city, but she dreads returning home to Oakland, where her fiancé, pilot Nelson, awaits their impending nuptials. Desperate for income to fund her summer stay in D.C. until the fellowship starts, she takes a nanny job for DR. ANDREW MCGEE, a handsome Black orthopedic surgeon who struggles with his wife Ruth’s abandonment a year ago.
Over time, sparks begin to fly between Vera and Andrew, but their growing attraction is complicated by Vera’s loyalty to Nelson and Andrew’s enduring hope that Ruth will return.
As Vera grows closer to Andrew’s 12-year-old son, Xavier, who craves a mother figure, the trio forms an unlikely family. But when Ruth reappears, chaos ensues when she demands custody of Xavier. Meanwhile, Nelson comes to D.C. to visit Vera, further complicating the situation.
While navigating Ruth’s unexpected manipulation and Xavier’s emotional turmoil, Vera and Andrew are forced to confront their romantic feelings for each other. Several stolen kisses on a weekend getaway make them question their duty towards their partners, and they are forced to question who—and what—they truly want.
